These nostalgic savory sausage rolls are a family tradition in our home. This is my grandmother’s famous recipe we ate on every ski trip and Christmas morning. This make ahead recipe is perfect for a quick hot breakfast, brunch, appetizer, or snack. Simply pull the frozen rolls out of the freezer and bake off. It tastes like a sausage biscuit, but it looks so much fancier.

Wonderful make ahead recipe for a quick hot breakfast, brunch, appetizer, or snack.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Bisquick
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 stick melted butter
  • 16 ounces hot pork sausage roll, at room temp (prefer Jimmy Dean)

Directions

  1. Mix the bisquick, milk, and melted butter in a bowl until combined. Place in the refrigerator until the dough is cool enough to not be sticky to the touch (~15-30mins).
  2. Roll the dough out in a thin layer into a rectangular shape on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Next spread the room temperature uncooked sausage on the dough evenly. Roll up the dough into a log, using the parchment paper to assist you, jelly roll fashion. Freeze the log just long enough to easily cut into 1/4-1/2 inch-thick round slices (~30 mins). Once sliced, place the slices flat on a cookie sheet to freeze solid. Once frozen, place the slices into a freezer zip lock bag to store frozen until needed.
  3. Bake the frozen rolls at 375 degrees F for 18-25 mins on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, turning over once half-way through baking. Best enjoyed warm.

Tips & Tricks: These beautiful spiral rolls are surprisingly easy and fun to make.
